Grace Mattei #schmoowedding

Shea Christine Photography
I was THRILLED to be able to do my friend Grace's hair on her special day. Grace is so beautiful and has gorgeous, thick, wavy hair that is wild and stunning all at the same time. For her wedding, she knew she did not want the traditional wedding up-do and had been growing her hair out in hopes it would look pretty and long for the big day. At first we went for a full and curly side swept do. We both agreed it was beautiful but not very Grace. We ended up going with a look that was elegant, but also showed off Grace's unique style and complimented her intricate one of a kind pink wedding dress.

Since her hair is pretty wavy, I straightened it to make it as long as possible because she really wanted to show off the length. Then, I separated her hair into two different sections and used a wand to create waves. I didn't apply product to them right away because she wanted a more natural look so I let the waves kind of "fall out." Grace had told me from the beginning that she wanted to somehow incorporate braids into both her hairstyle as well as her bridesmaids. For Grace, I then did not only one but two waterfall braids starting on the left side and moving horizontally across the back of her hair and ending at the right side. After the waterfall braids were done, I took a piece of long hair from underneath her hair (right behind her ear) and braided it across the top of her head, resting right on top of where her bangs began like a head band.

We then finished off this whimsical hair design with a pretty white, floral and feathery hair piece that Grace had purchased online. I attached it to the right side of her hair where it perfectly hid the endings of all 3 braids so that no one could tell where the braids started or ended. It was an outdoor, Florida wedding so humidity is always an anticipated enemy. However, her hair looked absolutely stunning and it lasted all day, not a sign of frizz was in sight!

In addition to designing the Bride's hair, I also did 6 out of the 9 bridesmaids hair. These girls were so sweet and I loved thinking of a new hair design for each of their individual styles and personalities. Each one had a braid incorporated into the design somehow whether it was a traditional braid, a braided headband, a fishtail braid or a waterfall braid. This was hands down the most beautiful wedding I have ever been to and Grace and her husband Daniel did most of the work themselves! Check out this post in Southern Weddings to read more about their special day! Love you Grace and Dan! http://iloveswmag.com/2013/03/19/pastel-florida-wedding-by-shea-christine/

Brides Maid- Sabrina #schmoowedding

Early in February my dear friends Grace and Daniel were finally hitched! I had the honor of not only doing the bride's hair, but 6 of the bridesmaid's hair as well! On Sabrina, this is actually two horizontal braids with a fishtail braid that has been pulled apart and pinned into a low elegant up-do at the base of her neck.

Red Carpet Waves

Catherine Zeta Jones
Catherine Zeta Jones was not nominated for anything at this year's Oscars but that doesn't mean she can't look STUNNING on the Red Carpet. Her dress was phenomenal and her hair did not disappoint! She wore long soft waves which automatically look mysterious and glamorous on dark hair colors. She also went with a middle part instead of a side part which sets her version of glamour waves apart from the others!

Helen Hunt who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as a sex surrogate in "The Session," also wore soft waves. I prefer this look on long locks but the way the waves fell right at her collar bone looked extremely elegant on her.

Helen Hunt- Nominated for Best Supporting Actress

Jessica Chastain was nominated for Best Actress for her role in Zero Dark Thirty. I actually prefer her blonde bombshell look she sported in the movie, The Help but her soft waves looked great on her long strawberry blonde hair. Her side part delicately swept the waves over to one side and when paired with her red lipstick created the look of a vintage movie star! Such a knock out!
Jessica Chastain - Nominated for Best Actress

Reese Witherspoon
Reese Witherspoon's hairstyle was very similar to Jessica's but her hair isn't quite as long which allowed the waves to appear more lively. Big soft waves are such a timeless, classy look!

Glynn- Girls Night Out!

As you can see, Glynn has fairly long and super thick, beautiful, blonde hair. She lives in Texas but I LOVE when she comes to visit her sister in West Palm Beach! They were set on having a night out on the town on the enchanting island of Palm Beach and Glynn's dress (not pictured, wish it was!) was just too gorgeous to not have an awesome hair design to go with it!

Valentine's Date Night ~ Lexie Paneque

Low Romantic Updo

My beautiful friend Lexie and her boyfriend David have been dating for almost 4 years. This Valentine's Day, Lexie wanted to look extra special without spending a lot of money and having an elegant hairstyle did just the trick! (Her cute clothes helped too!) I curled all of her hair in multiple layers, created a tousled texture for the front and then gathered it at the base of her neck to create a romantic, low updo that went perfectly with her outfit!
David is a lucky guy ;]

Her ombre colored hair we did a couple of weeks ago looked GREAT with this style!

Adding the finishing touches!

Brave Ruth

Ruth-Before (Gorgeous right?)
Ruth- After (Short, Sexy and Confident!)
My second night staying in my freshman dorm, my blonde bombshell neighbor from across the hall popped her head in my room and said,  "Hey, I hear you're good at hair!" to which I replied, "I sure am! What's up?" One funny thing I've learned about styling hair is that it's not a talent you can be modest about. The way I see it, you're either good or you're not and answering, "I guess I'm OK.." or "Oh, no I'm really not that good" in an effort to appear humble just doesn't cut it. She  told me her name was Ruth and that she wanted to chop off all of her hair! Her hair was long, blonde and beautiful so at first I was confused at her request, but I love hair so much I couldn't refuse her.  She had had short hair in the past and said she felt more sexy with a short cut versus when she has long hair and feels pretty or cute. In the middle of my messy dorm room (I had not even finished unpacking yet!) Ruth took a seat in my desk chair while I dug my spray bottle and scissors out of my suitcase. After spraying down her hair and letting her comb it one last time, I pulled it back into a pony tail and chopped it off to the length of a cute bob which fell at the base of her neck. "Shorter!" she said. "Are you sure? I can always cut more but I can't glue it back on," I replied. "Just do it, short and sexy remember?" With that, I went for it and it turned out darling! Ruth was fearless and now her hairstyle proved it. She looked great with long hair but her new short cut gave her a whole new look and the confidence she wanted to start a new chapter in her life!

Rempel Wedding 3/3/2012

The Beautiful Bride- (c) Kim Fontaine Photography

Over the past 4 years, I have had the privilege of getting to know and love my college roommate, Rebecca Rempel. Our third year living together, her boyfriend of 2 months surprised us all when he proposed on New Years Eve. Rebecca and Brent tied the knot last March in West Palm Beach, Florida and I was thrilled to be able to do her hair for her big day. Becs has naturally very tiny, tight curls which are gorgeous but she wanted something a little more "soft" for her wedding day. In order to achieve maximum volume and length I did a straight blow out and used both a 1" and 1/2" barrel to curl each piece. Since the wedding took place in sunny South Florida, I finished off the style with lots of anti-humidity hairspray and a pretty blue hair piece she had purchased to match the wedding decorations. She wanted to look naturally pretty but glamorous at the same time, and this hairstyle allowed her to be both of those flawlessly!
